It’s Tradition: Las Cruces Fire welcomes newest fire engine into service with “Push-In”

The push-in ceremony dates back to the 19th century, when firefighters returned from calls with horse-drawn pumpers and manually pushed their apparatus back into the station.

On November 12, the Las Cruces Fire Department celebrated a Push-In Ceremony at Station 2 (1199 Foster Rd.), home of Engine 2, which serves our District 2 community from the second oldest firehouse in the City.

The push-in ceremony dates back to the 19th century, when firefighters returned from calls with horse-drawn pumpers and manually pushed their apparatus back into the station. This timeless ritual now symbolizes unity, pride, and progress — and marks another important public safety investment by City leadership.

Las Cruces Fire Department added, “Thank you to our community for your continued support of public safety in Las Cruces. Together, we’re keeping our city safe and strong.”
