BLM – Las Cruces wishes you a “Happy National #TakeAHike Day!”
Hiking is an excellent way to get outdoors, enjoy exercise, and take in the beauty and diversity of #YourPublicLands. Las Cruces District has miles of developed and backcountry hiking across 5.4 million acres of public land, including 4 National Recreation Trails.
Enjoy both mountain and valley views from the Sierra Vista Trail. Take in the high elevation vegetation on the Pine Tree Trail at Aguirre Spring Campground. Encounter New Mexico’s recent history on the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Trail. Encounter cultural history on the trails at Three Rivers Petroglyph Site. Encounter ancient prehistory on the Discovery Trail at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument. Or start your cross-country journey on a portion of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.
So go take a hike! Wherever you enjoy the outdoors, be sure to follow #LeaveNoTrace principles by planning your trip, packing out what you take with you, and following the beaten path.
Share your hiking experiences on social media by tagging #NationalTakeAHikeDay to inspire others to get out into the great outdoors on their public lands.
