A structure fire damaged an apartment complex on W Madrid Ave Thursday evening.
Just after 7 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2026, Las Cruces firefighters responded to a reported structure fire on the 200 block of W Madrid Ave. Fire crews discovered heavy fire coming from a downstairs apartment unit. Firefighters initiated fire attack and searched for potential occupants. The fire was under control within five minutes of arrival. Firefighters were able to minimize property damage by quickly preventing it from spreading to adjacent apartment units.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
