Breaking: Doña Ana Fire Rescue Responds to early Wednesday Fire in Salem

While battling the fire, a firefighter was able to rescue one cat. Unfortunately, the remaining 10 cats were found deceased.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a single-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to a nearby vehicle.

Firefighters immediately worked to ensure all occupants were safely out of the structure. Crews were informed that several cats were still inside the home. While battling the fire, a firefighter was able to rescue one cat. Unfortunately, the remaining 10 cats were found deceased. No other occupants were inside the home.

One person was transported to a nearby hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the response efforts.

Crews remained on scene to fully extinguish the fire and monitor for hotspots. American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
