The Meerscheidt Recreation Center will temporarily close both of its gymnasiums during daytime hours over two weeks in March to allow for ongoing construction, though some activities — including youth leagues and Spring Break camps — will continue as scheduled.
According to a news release from the City of Las Cruces, both gymnasiums at the recreation center, located at 1600 E. Hadley Ave., will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 9–13 and March 16–20. As a result, no adult programming or open gym will take place March 9–21, 2026.
Evening practice rentals scheduled in the Recreation gym will resume at 5 p.m. during the week of March 9–13 but will be transferred to the Main gym while construction is underway. Evening Recreation gym practice rentals for March 16–20 remain pending, according to the city.
Despite the temporary daytime closures, youth league activities will continue as planned, including Youth Indoor Soccer finals and Youth Basketball league games scheduled for March 14 and March 21.
The facility will also host two half-day youth camps during Spring Break, according to a separate announcement from Las Cruces Parks and Recreation.
A STEM Camp for children ages 7–12 will run March 17–19 from 8 a.m. to noon, offering hands-on activities focused on science, technology, engineering and math.
A Baseball Fundamentals Camp, also for ages 7–12, is scheduled March 17–20 from 8 a.m. to noon and will focus on developing basic baseball skills.
Registration for both camps opened March 3 at 9 a.m. and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Each camp is limited to 25 participants, and the registration fee is $60 per camper. A snack will be provided each day.
