The attempted kidnapping occurred around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 when the victim reported that she was on a late-night run in the area when a male subject in a grey sedan pulled over and attempted to restrain her. The victim was able to free herself and get to safety, and the suspect left in the grey sedan. She described the suspect as white or Hispanic with long, dark, wavy hair and facial hair
While working to apprehend the suspect, NMSU Police increased patrols on campus and continue to urge the campus community to be aware of your environment and what is going on around you (e.g., when playing games on a smart phone or listening to music on headphones). Police also recommend going out with friends so you can help each other watch for dangerous situations. If someone is acting suspiciously near you, move away toward large groups and well-lit areas. If the person follows you and/or continues to act in a suspicious manner, consider calling 911 for assistance.

NMSU Police can provide a safe escort after-hours on campus when requested. Call 575-646-3311 to request a safe escort from classroom buildings to dorms or other campus areas. Security escorts are also offered Sunday through Thursday on campus by Pete’s Pick Up. NMSU PD offers free online and in-person crime prevention and self-defense courses.
