Officer-Involved Shooting on 1300 Block of S. Espina in Las Cruces

On Monday, November 11, 2024, at about 10:30 p.m. Las Cruces Police Department officers responded to the 1300 block of S Espina regarding a man armed with a gun yelling outside of an apartment complex.

On arrival, an LCPD police officer encountered an armed man. The incident resulted in an officer firing at least one round and the man being shot at least once. Officers arrested 50-year-old Danny Garcia De Leon, who received medical attention and has been released from the hospital.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The Dona Ana County Officer-Involved Incident Task Force made up of the New Mexico State Police, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico State University Police Department, and the Las Cruces Police Department are investigating the incident.
