National Apprenticeship Week (NAW)
National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is celebrating its 10th anniversary from November 17-23, 2024. Since NAW’s beginning in 2015, Registered Apprenticeship has flourished as a way to create the highly skilled workforce necessary to modernize our country’s infrastructure, build clean energy technologies, strengthen our cybersecurity defense ecosystem, and build a stronger care economy.
NAW is a nationwide celebration where employers, industry representatives, labor organizations, community-based organizations, workforce partners, educational institutions, and Federal, State, and Local government agencies host events to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship.
Registered apprenticeships offer numerous benefits for both veterans and employers. They offer veterans the opportunity to gain paid work experience and a portable nationally-recognized credential. 90% of apprentices retain employment after completing an apprenticeship and make an average starting salary of $80,000.
Registered apprenticeships help businesses recruit a diverse and highly skilled workforce to create a pipeline of workers in a variety of industries. Registered Apprenticeships reduce turnover while improving productivity and profitability because businesses are able to retain top talent.

LCPD Increases Pay for Cadets, Officer-Trainees
The Las Cruces Police Department is still accepting applications for its training academy and, effective Jan. 1, 2025, cadets and officer-trainees will receive a higher salary.
Beginning Jan. 1, cadets will be paid $24 per hour or $49,920 annually while in the academy and new graduates, known as officer-trainees, will earn $26 per hour or $54,000 annually. Officer trainees who complete their first year earn $28.84 per hour plus overtime.
Applications for Police Cadet must be submitted no later than Dec. 2, 2024. The academy is tentatively set to begin in March 202
LCPD offers generous hiring incentives for cadets with a three-year commitment. The incentives are non-stackable:
- $11,000 for each cadet.
- $15,000 for an associate degree.
- $20,000 for bachelor’s degree or four years of honorable military service or retirement from military.
- $25,000 for bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology, criminal justice or criminology.
- $30,000 for master’s degree in sociology, psychology, criminal justice or criminology.
Some recruits who live outside of Las Cruces may be eligible for up to $5,000 in relocation assistance.
Applicants are required to be U.S. citizens, at least 19 years old when application is submitted, have at least a high school diploma and no felony convictions.
