Alesha Lane Posts New Personal Best as Aggies Chase Dreams at MLK Invitational

A select group of student-athletes competed at day one of competition in Albuquerque.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After opening the season in Lubbock, Texas, the Aggies returned to the Land of Enchantment, taking a drive up I-25 to compete in the MLK Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico. The two-day meet kicks off the first of three straight meets that NM State will compete at in the Duke City.

Track Headlines
 NM State appeared in just one event on the opening day of action on the track, with a trio of student-athletes competing in the 600 run. Drake transfer Amanda Radava paced the Aggies, finishing with a time of 1:34.98 – her first time competing in the event. Junior and Albuquerque native Angela Korte finished second among Aggies with a time of 1:39.78.

On Day Two, a quartet of freshman made their first appearances in the mile run for NM State – Trista CordovaMurrie DodgeAlexandra Ordaz and Nya Valenzuela. Dodge finished first among Aggies with a time of 5:40.13. This became Valenzuela’s first time competing during indoor competition. Amanda Radava paced a trio of Aggies in the 800m run, recording a time of 2:16.86. New Mexico natives Marlene Mosqueda (2:19.45) and Angela Korte (2:20.98) rounded out the Aggie performers on the day.
 
Field Headlines
Junior Alesha Lane put together the best performance for NM State on the opening day of competition. The sole Aggie to advance to the finals in the weight throw with a mark of 17.38m (a personal best she set at last weekend’s Corky Classic), Lane improved in the finals, launching a mark of 18.38m (60-3″) to take fifth overall. This became a new personal best, while also placing the Casper, Wy., native sixth in program history.

Rebecca Green improved on a season-opening mark of 13.17m, posting a best distance of 14.53m (47-8″). Sophomore Kamryn Cadle followed suit, showing improvement to post a mark of 14.28m (46-10.25″) on the day. Rebecca Green led the way for the Aggies in the shot put on Day Two, posting a season-best mark of 15.64m (51-3.75″) to finish third overall – the first top-three finish of the season for the Crimson & White.

UP NEXT
NM State will return to the Duke City for the New Mexico Team Open at the Albuquerque Convention on Friday Jan. 31. The two-day meet will conclude on Feb. 1. The meet will be streamed on FloSports.
