The Aggies kicked off their weekend in Lubbock with a statement win, taking down Texas Tech 4-2 to snap a two-match skid. After suffering close losses to UNLV and Weber State last week, NM State bounced back in a big way, securing a historic victory over the Red Raiders. Entering the match, Texas Tech held a dominant 30-4 all-time record against the Aggies, with NM State’s last win in the series coming in 2001 by a score of 4-3 – marking a 24-year gap since their last triumph over the Red Raiders.
NM State set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with clutch performances from its pairings. After Texas Tech took the opening match 6-2, the Aggies needed back-to-back wins to secure the crucial point. Tobias Wallin and Gustavo Campos delivered first, outlasting Thiago Guglieri and Ludovico Vaccari 6-4. In the deciding match, Roko Stipetic and Lance Urlaub came through in the clutch, edging out Nika Arsic and Takeyasu Sekiguchi 7-5 to give NM State the early advantage.
With momentum on their side, the Aggies sealed the upset behind strong singles performances from Itay Feigin, Tobias Wallin, and Lance Urlaub. Feigin dominated his match, cruising past Piotr Pawlak in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Urlaub continued to impress, grinding out a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Brody Nejedly. Wallin then delivered the final blow, battling through a three-set contest to defeat Guglieri 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 and clinch the historic win for NM State.
