Doña Ana County – Doña Ana County’s Creative Industries was established in 2024 and hit the ground running with an inaugural project, supported by the state’s Economic Development Department, newly created Creative Industries Division.

The project highlighted an overview of Creative Industries in the county and provided opportunities for networking and learning more about public art in our community and statewide efforts to showcase how creatives are an integral part of economic development.
The brief but impactful project included training, and hosted three innovative, hands-on, workshops to the community, led with support from Artistic Director and local Creative Irene Oliver Lewis.
The free workshops took a closer look at creative industries in the County; Who’s Who in the Creative Industries; and Art in the eye of the beholder, which included a thorough and visionary presentation by Mike Young, an artist himself and lead researcher and writer for Creative Startup. Young shared highlights of the state’s Creative Industries Division study that will shape their strategic plan. The report is available at www.edd.newmexico.gov/business-development/creative-industries/
County Economic Development Administrator and Creative Industries Project Manager Denisse Carter worked closely with staff to help familiarize them with ways to support the creative industries and established a Doña Ana County Creative Industries website. The website will feature a digital tour of public art on display at the county’s Government Center, including a temporary display on loan from local elementary school student artists.
