Women’s Golf Closes Out Bruin Wave Invitational

NM State finishes 11th at second spring tournament of the year.

VALENCIA, Calif. – NM State concluded its stay at the Valencia Country Club where they took part in the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. After 54 holes, NM State finished with a combined score of 939 (+75) to place 11th. NM State finished 11 strokes ahead of Rutgers in the 12-team field while UCLA ran away with the team title – finishing 22 strokes in front of second-place Baylor.

On the individual leaderboard, the Aggies were led by Emma Bunch who climbed four spots to finish tied for 14th place after shooting a 74 (+2) on Tuesday to end the week at 8-over. This marks Bunch’s fifth top-25 finish of her junior season and 16th consecutive top-25 finish dating back to her freshman season. The individual crown for the tournament would go to UCLA’s Francesca Fiorellini who shot an astounding 207 (-9) across the two-day event which saw players shoot an average score of 77.63 (Par 72) per 18 holes.

Camille Pazouki recorded the biggest leap on the leaderboard on day two of the invitational as she also carded a 74 (+2) to improve her position by eight spots and finish in 44th place. Angela Garvin was the third Aggie to shoot in the 70s on Tuesday as she turned in a 79 (+7) on her way to ending the week tied for 56th. Meanwhile, Alexandria ArmendarizEmma Thompson and Isabel Lauhlé each ended with a final score of 247 (+31) to place in a tie for 64th alongside CSU Fullerton’s Amber Davalos.

NUMBERS OF NOTE

  • At +8, Emma Bunch finished as one of just 17 golfers in the 72-player field to end the week at nine-over or better.
  • Both Bunch and Camille Pazouki finished one-under across the par 5s this week to serve as two of just 23 players in the field to do so.
  • Bunch logged a total of 37 pars this week to rank tied for fourth in total pars.

UP NEXT
NM State will now be off until March 10 when they will travel to Sugar Land, Texas, to take part in the Riverbend Intercollegiate hosted by Houston Christian University. The two-day event is set to take place at Riverbend Country Club and will serve as one of three tournaments that the Aggies will play in March.
