While returning from another alarm, Engine 2 and other LCFD units responded to a structure fire with reports of a person screaming inside. Finding the front door locked, Lieutenant Abraham and Driver/Operator Johnson entered through a window to search for the victim. Upon locating her, they began removal as Firefighter Rodriguez forced entry through the back door, allowing a quick and safe rescue.
Thanks to their quick thinking and teamwork, the victim was removed and transported to the hospital with minimal delay. Their actions exemplify courage and commitment to our community.

Lieutenant Steven Jaquez, a 22-year LCFD veteran and U.S. Army veteran, was honored for his life-saving actions while off duty on July 5, 2024. (Pictured: Lieutenant Steven Jaquez)
While dining at The Game 2 in Las Cruces, Jaquez heard staff yelling for help as an employee suffered a cardiac emergency. He immediately responded, assessed the individual, and began performing CPR until emergency crews arrived.
Thanks to his rapid response and medical training, emergency medical services arrived in time to provide further care, ultimately saving the individual’s life. His actions reflect professionalism, skill, and dedication to public safety—even off duty.
