SUGAR LAND, Texas – NM State’s women’s golf team completed the opening 54 holes of action at the Riverbend Intercollegiate hosted by Houston Christian University at Riverbend Country Club on Monday. With the first two rounds in the book, the Aggies (+22) are slotted in fourth place while Houston (-3) has a strong hold on the top spot on the leaderboard.

Individually, the Aggies are guided by Emma Bunch who finished the day two strokes under par to find herself in fourth place on the 79-player leaderboard after carding a 69 (-3) followed by a 73 (+1). Additionally, a 68 (-4) in the opening round for Angela Garvin helped propel her to a tie for fifth place as she concluded the day at even par following a 76 (+4) in the second round.
Bunch and Garvin are currently chasing Houston’s Moa Svedenskiold who recorded a 67 (-5) in the second round to finish the day at 7-under and alone atop the individual leaderboard.
NM State’s Alexandria Armendariz bounced back from an 81 (+9) in the first round to post a 74 (+2) in the second round, leaving her in a tie for 37th with 18 holes to play. Meanwhile, Kaylee Chen (+13) sits in a tie for 48th and Camille Pazouki (+16) is tied for 56th.
NUMBERS OF NOTE
- Angela Garvin’s 68 in the first round marks her lowest round of the season and is her first round in the 60s since the opening round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Oct. 23, 2023. In total, this is the fourth time that the grad student has fired a round in the 60s during her career with the Aggies.
- Emma Bunch posted her fourth round in the 60s of the season and 22nd of her career. Bunch also finished Monday at five-under on the par 4s to lead all players in the field. Meanwhile, her six birdies ranked second among all competitors.
- As a team, NM State was one of five teams to finish with a combined score of two-over on across the par 3s to pace the field.
- The Aggies totaled 15 birdies on Monday which ranks second behind only Houston (17).
