NM State in Contention Entering Final Round of GCU Invitational

PHOENIX – The Aggies began competition at the GCU Invitational on Tuesday and while play was suspended due to darkness, most players completed all 36 holes before the stoppage. With most players cards fully filled, the Aggies (-1) find themselves in second place on the team leaderboard with 18 holes to play. NM State will begin the day just six strokes back of host Grand Canyon who stands atop the leaderboard.

NM State was led by senior Aidan Thomas who’s 68 (-3) in the second round helped propel him into a tie for third place, sitting just one stroke behind GCU’s Tommaso Zorzetto and CSU Fullerton’s Tegan Andrews who each finished the day at four-under. Thomas’ second round score represented the fifth round in the 60s this season
 
The Aggies’ Alexandre Bauduin also had a solid day as his 69 (-2) in the opening round of action helped him finish the day at even par and in a tie for 12th place. For Bauduin, this marked his fourth round in the 60s this season.

Local Sports

Meanwhile, three Aggies are among the seven individuals tied for 24th as Ethan KloseJavier Delgadillo and Anthony Lara all concluded the day at two-over. Freshman Mateo Payán rounded out the group and is currently in a tie for 41st (+4) among the 99-man field.
