LA JOLLA, Calif. – With 18 holes in the books, the NM State men’s golf team finds itself in a tie for first place among the 20-team field competing at Torrey Pines Golf Course in the UC San Diego Invitational. Following 18 holes of action on Sunday afternoon, the Aggies posted a team score of 301 (+13) to end the day tied with CSUN at the top of the team leaderboard.

Aidan Thomas ended the day as the top Aggie and one of three individuals to finish with a 71 (-1), giving him a share of the lead entering Monday’s round. On the day, Thomas carded four birdies to serve as one of eight players in the 111-man field to end the day with four-plus birdies. Thomas currently shares the lead with Lehigh’s Jake Roth and Arkansas State’s Thomas Schmidt.
Alexandre Bauduin and Ethan Klose were the next two Aggies to appear on the leaderboard as they both logged scores of 76 (+4) to conclude the evening in a tie for 19th place. Mateo Payan finished just two strokes back of Bauduin and Klose as he currently sits in a tie for 42nd (+6). Javier Delgadillo rounded out the group in a tie for 57th (+7).
On Monday, the Aggies will return for the second round of action which is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. MDT. Bauduin and Thomas will go off of hole one while Payan and Klose will start their days on hole two and Delgadillo will tee off of the par-three third.
