Doña Ana County – Doña Ana Fire Rescue, DAFR will host a public groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and remodeling of Station 12, a key milestone in the transition from volunteer-based staffing to full-time, career staffing. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m., Sunday April 6 at Station 12, 5208 Quesenberry Lane.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant step forward for DAFR as it continues to evolve in response to the growing needs of the community. Full time staffing will officially begin Sunday April 6, allowing station 12 to provide enhanced services to residents, including quicker response times and more comprehensive coverage of the area.
The remodeling project will include the addition of dormitory areas and a kitchen, creating a functional environment for the station’s personnel. These upgrades are essential to support the shift to a full-time team, ensuring that firefighters have the facilities needed to serve the community around the clock.
“Doña Ana Fire Rescue is committed to meeting the needs of our community by providing professional, efficient and reliable emergency services.” Deputy Chief Yvonne Feijoo said. “Transitioning to full time staffing will strengthen our department’s ability to serve the public every day. We are grateful for our volunteer firefighters and look forward to continuing to work alongside them as they transition to other stations in the county.”

While this change represents a major step forward, DAFR leaders also recognize and express deep appreciation for their dedicated volunteer firefighters who have served at Station 12. As Station 12 transitions to full-time staffing, volunteers who were previously assigned to the station will be reassigned to other non-staffed stations across the county. Their dedication to public safety remains vital to the department and the community.
While the construction is underway, firefighters assigned to Station 12 will remain housed in a mobile home located adjacent to the station to ensure continued service without disruption. Station 12 is expected to be fully operational in May 2026.
