NM State three strokes off lead with two rounds to play in Florida.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – With one round in the books, NM State women’s golf sits in third place at the Conference USA Championships at World Golf Village. On the opening day of action, the Aggies combined to shoot a 290 (+2) and will begin Tuesday’s round just three strokes back of leader Jax State (287, -1).

Individually, the Aggies finished the day with two of the three players at the top of the leaderboard after 18 holes. Both Angela Garvin and Emma Bunch concluded the first round of play with a 69 (-3) to hold onto a share of the lead alongside Jax State’s Lara El chaib.
In the first round, Garvin tallied five birdies, including four of which came across the first nine holes of the tournament to give her a 33 (-3) at the turn. She would then shoot even on the back nine to end the day with her second round in the 60s this season.
Similarly, Bunch also turned in five birdies on the first day, with four of them coming on the front nine before shooting an even 36 on the back to keep her in firm contention for her second consecutive CUSA title.
Camille Pazouki also had a solid first day as she recorded a 75 (+3) in the first round to finish the day in a tie for 22nd. Additionally, Alexandria Armendariz shot a 77 (+5) and sits in a tie for 31st and Kaylee Chen posted a 79 (+7) and is tied for 36th.

NUMBERS OF NOTE
- The average score for the 40 players in the field was a 74.35.
- The par-4 14th played as the easiest hole on the course with 13 players recording a birdie and 38 of the 40 players shooting a par or better.
- The par-4 17th played as the toughest hole on the course with only two players producing a birdie while 23 individuals shot bogey or worse.
- Angela Garvin was one of just three players in the field to birdie hole 6.
- As a team, the Aggies shot 15 bogeys which is tied for the fewest among the field on day one of the event this year.
- Angela Garvin finished with an average score of 3.60 and shot a combined four-under on the course’s 10 par 4s. This paced all players in the field.
- Emma Bunch shot three-under and averaged a score of 4.25 on the course’s four par 5s to rank second among the 40-woman field.
- Both Emma Bunch and Angela Garvin carded five birdies on Monday to rank tied for second most in the field.
- Camille Pazouki’s 14 pars ranked tied for second most among the field on Monday.
