The Sun Country Amateur Golf Association’s New Mexico/West Texas Amateur Championship has come to a close, with three NMSU Aggies in contention entering Day 3. At stake, an exemption to play in the National Amateur Championship this August.

While the tournament did not end with an Aggie on top, it did showcase the talent from the big university in the small city of Las Cruces. Gadsden alum, Anthony Lara ended up tied for second, unable to match his Round 1 and Round 2 performances. Aiden Thomas scored 5 birdies in Round 3, but was unable to overcome a rough patch on holes 7, 8 and 9–two bogies and a double-bogie. Javier Delgadillo came on strong in Round 3, rising to take 5th place outright.
