BATON ROUGE, La. – The West Virginia University baseball team fell to No. 6 LSU, 16-9, in game one of the NCAA Super Regionals at Alex Box Stadium, Saturday afternoon. Game two of the best-of-three series is set for Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. The Mountaineers fall to 44-15 overall while the Tigers improve to 47-15.
Junior Sam White went 3-for-5 with three runs scored while freshman Gavin Kelly had three hits, including a two-run home run, his second of the season. Junior Skylar King added two RBI as did senior Kyle West.

West Virginia took the lead in the second on a run-scoring groundout from senior Jace Rinehart.
After keeping LSU off the board for the first three innings, the Tigers hit a three-run home run in the fourth to take the lead. They added seven more in the fifth to extend their lead to 10-1.
From LSU Athletics: The Tigers struck for seven runs in the fifth inning in an outburst highlighted by Milam’s grand slam, the first of the sophomore’s LSU career. The blast was Milam’s 11 homer of the season and increased the Tigers’ lead to 7-1.
In the sixth, the Mountaineers put up four runs on a pair of RBI singles by King and redshirt junior Chase Swain as well as an LSU error. However, the Tigers answered back with six runs in the home half, including their second grand slam of the game.
Kelly got two runs back in the seventh with an opposite-field home run. Senior Kyle West added another two-run home run in the ninth for Mountaineers, his 11th of the season, but the rally ended there.
