Aggies, Bunch Bring Home GCU Invitational Title

PHOENIX – After posting some low numbers to claim the lead through 36 holes, NM State returned to Grand Canyon University Course on Wednesday and did what it needed to do to earn the team title with a final 54-hole score of 846 (-18) to win the tournament by five strokes. This marks the Aggies’ first team title since April 2022 when they were crowned WAC Champions. (Originally posted February 28, 2024)

The Aggies’ road to the championship was largely fueled by sophomore Emma Bunch who finished the three-day event 14 strokes under par (202) to tally her first title as an Aggie. Following a day in which she shot a six-under-par 66 in the morning before carding a 68 in the afternoon, Bunch continued her impressive week by matching the lowest individual score of the day with a 68 in the final round on Wednesday. Across the final 18 holes, Bunch notched five birdies while recording a single bogey to maintain her lead.

Fellow Aggie Alison Gastelum also battled her way to a top ten finish as she shot two-under on the day to come in at 210 (-6) for the tournament which was good for eighth place among the field of nearly 120 players. Despite shooting two-over on the day, Angela Garvin’s low-scoring Tuesday carried her to a top-15 finish as she landed in a tie for 13th while finishing with a two-under 214 for the tournament.

The Aggies’ final score which counted towards the total came from sophomore Isa Lauhlé who finished in a tie for 42nd after managing a 75 (+3) on the final day of competition.
