Las Cruces City Council to Interview Three Candidates for City Manager

Las Cruces City Council met in closed session Monday, March 18, 2024, with the director and deputy director of the City’s Human Resources Department to confirm the process for hiring the next City Manager.

The City Manager is the only employee hired by City Council.

City Council agreed to move forward with three internal candidates, applicants who are currently employed by the City. Those three candidates will be interviewed by Councilors on Wednesday, March 20, at City Hall.

City Council received nine applications for the position. Councilors narrowed the candidate pool to three during Monday’s closed session.

Councilors will announce a decision regarding a City Manager sometime after March 20.

The hiring process became necessary after City Manager Ifo Pili announced his resignation in February 2024. Pili’s resignation becomes effective March 31, 2024.
