“Libraries do good work and the goal of this tour is to elevate libraries across different communities and show how they are fundamental to our country,” Drabinski said.

“We are delighted to welcome ALA President Emily Drabinski to our city,” said Carol Brey, director of the City’s Quality of Life Department and ALA president in 2004-2005. “We appreciate the way she is highlighting the importance of libraries across our nation, at a critical time in our history.”

Drabinski’s visit to Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., is part of a multi-city nationwide tour. Drabinski’s tour will include stops in West Virginia, Missouri, Kansas, New Mexico, Arizona and culminating in San Diego, Calif, at the American Library Association annual conference.

In Las Cruces, Drabinski will meet with City of Las Cruces officials along with library staff and community members.

With the support of the Lannan Foundation, filmmaker Nikita Carpenter will join the tour to document the work happening at libraries, including services provided by the Las Cruces Public Libraries.

For information, contact Carol Brey, director of Quality of Life, at (575) 541-2559 or by email at cbrey@lascruces.gov.
