After garnering several selections entering last season, NM State landed four Aggies on the preseason first team. Running back and leading returning rusher Ahmonte Watkins, left tackle and 2023 First Team All-CUSA honoree Shiyazh Pete, leading returning sack-getter Buddha Peleti and newcomer Da’Marcus Crosby were each honored on the magazine’s first team.
Meanwhile, the second team selections included four returners as wideout Kordell David, center Canaan Yarro, guard AJ Vaipulu and linebacker Sone Aupiu each picked up honors. Lastly, the third team featured two newcomers and a pair of returners as cornerback Dakerric Hobbs, kicker Connor Brooksby, punt returner Jordan Smith and long snapper Charlie Eberle all earned recognition.
NM State is set to begin its 2024 campaign in Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 31, when it plays host to Southeast Missouri. Kickoff versus the Redhawks is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
