A 2-year-old Las Cruces boy drowned Monday evening in a backyard swimming pool.

About 9:20 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, Las Cruces police and fire personnel were dispatched to the 1000 block of Second Street after the boy’s parents discovered their child unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool.
The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
As is standard procedure, Las Cruces police are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the boy’s drowning.
