NMSU Extension, FEMA to host agricultural resilience event July 18 in Mora County–ZOOM Attendance Available

New Mexico State University’s Mora County Cooperative Extension Service will host a Comprehensive Agricultural Resilience Event: Addressing Post-Disaster Challenges with the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims and Natural Resources Conservation Service from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18 at VFW Hall, Highway 518, in Mora, New Mexico. The event is free and open to the public and will include hourly panel discussions, interactive booths and personalized consultants. The panel discussions will be available virtually over Zoom
 
Key presentation topics include identifying crop losses and record keeping; incursion of rodent pests; wildlife management; healthy soil and soil testing; and onset of problematic invasion weeds. 
 
“By bringing together these specialists, we aim to equip our agricultural community with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate these challenging times,” said Christina Turner, Extension Northern District director.
 
Experts will be available at interactive booths to give personalized information and consultations throughout the day. The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims office staff will be available to process agricultural claims. Experts from partnering state and federal agencies will address agricultural and environmental impacts that contributed to the loss of grazing and water contamination as a result of fires and floods. The state veterinarian will provide insights and give guidance on filing claims with FEMA. 
 
“As someone who was raised in this community, I am deeply committed to improving the lives of the people of Mora,” Mora County Agricultural Extension Agent Sunny Finley said. “Through our efforts at the Mora Cooperative Extension, we strive to be a valuable asset, providing essential resources, education, and support to help our community navigate and overcome challenges. It is an honor to give back to the community that shaped me and to work towards a stronger, more resilient future for us all.”
