For five years, Alison Gastelum has proven she knows what it takes to succeed as a competitor. Now, she will get the opportunity to do so from a coaching role. Tuesday, Head Women’s Golf Coach Danny Bowen announced the former Aggie will join his staff as a graduate assistant entering the 2024-25 campaign.
“I’m really excited to bring Alison on staff this year. She’s been an incredible asset to the program over the last five years and knows exactly what it takes to be a successful Aggie,” said Coach Bowen. “Alison poured in everything she had on a daily basis to make sure she was giving her all to the team and I know she will do the same as a coach.”
This past spring, Gastelum wrapped up a playing career with the Aggies that began in 2019 and included a number of impressive accomplishments highlighted by top five finishes at the conference championships in each of her final three seasons.
The Chihuahua, Mexico, native put forth the best individual finish of her career as a senior when she took home the individual title at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. In Wolcott, Colo., Gastelum shot a 71-70-68-209 (-7) to log her lowest 54-hole round of the season on her way to clearing the field by two strokes.
Across her career in crimson and white, Gastelum was twice named first team all-conference (2022 and 2023) in addition to earning second team all-conference honors in 2021 and 2024.
Gastelum assumes the role previously held during the previous two seasons by fellow former Aggie Pun Chanachai.
