The GCC is an annual challenge where teams of three or more collegiate students develop real-world, sustainable geothermal solutions, work directly in communities, gain experience in the renewable energy industry, and compete for cash prizes. Previous experience with geothermal topics is not required.
Registration is now open through October 7! Follow the challenge on HeroX, set up your account, and have one team member complete the registration form by clicking “Solve the Challenge.” Then, check out the official rules to start planning your project.
First-place teams in each track will earn $10,000, an opportunity to host a community event, and national recognition; second-place teams will receive $6,000; and third-place teams will win $2,000. Teams that register by September 16, 2024, will have the opportunity to be paired with an industry mentor, who can assist with feedback on their projects and provide valuable insight on the renewable energy industry.
Students from any major can participate, and interdisciplinary teams are encouraged. Faculty can also incorporate the GCC as part of their fall courses for a hands-on learning experience.
The 2024 competition will have two tracks—Technical and Policy—focused on different aspects of implementing geothermal heating and cooling systems.
To learn more about the competition, read the official rules and watch the promo video and the recorded information session, or register for the next information session on September 12, 2024, at 4 p.m. ET.
