The APLU and its Commission on Economic and Community Engagement established the IEP program to help higher education institutions strengthen their strategies and practices in economic and community development, while providing due recognition to institutions that are exemplary in their institution-wide commitment to regional economic engagement.

“I am thrilled that NMSU received a five-year extension to its Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program designation,” said Luis Cifuentes, NMSU vice president for research, creativity and economic development. “It reinforces the institution’s commitment to impacting economic development locally, regionally and throughout New Mexico.”

According to the APLU, the objective of the five-year extension process is to reaffirm the institution’s commitment to economic engagement, to ensure that their Growth and Improvement Plan and their economic engagement enterprise is consistent with current conditions and goals, and to ensure that the IEP designation continues to serve as a mark of excellence.
