Las Cruces police arrested a shoplifting suspect Tuesday who had an active warrant for murder out of Colorado.

Oscar Martinez, 48, from Denver, Colo., was arrested by Las Cruces police shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, near the intersection of Roadrunner Parkway and Foothills Road. Police were looking for a man matching his description who was suspected of shoplifting from a nearby Walgreen’s store.

After positively identifying Martinez, police confirmed he had an active warrant for a homicide that occurred on or before Aug. 1, 2024, in Denver, Colo. For more information on that case, contact the Denver Police Department.

Martinez is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center until he can be extradited to Colorado.
