Thursday afternoon, Shiyazh Pete was one of 90 individuals named to the 2024 Lombardi Award Watch List.
The list is comprised of the nation’s top linemen and linebackers. Based on previous performances and potential for the coming season, this list consists of a select group of talented athletes representing the very best from all FBS conferences and independents.
The watch list showcases a balanced distribution across eligible positions: 18 defensive tackles, 17 defensive ends, 19 linebackers on defense, 18 offensive tackles, 10 offensive guards, 6 offensive centers, and 2 tight ends on offense. Pete is one of just two Conference USA offensive linemen featured on the watch list.
Last year, the native of Missoula, Mont., started all 15 games for the Aggies and anchored an offensive line that helped the Aggies finish 14th in the nation in rushing yards per game. Additionally, Pete was one of three Aggies to earn First Team All-CUSA honors for his play during the 2023 season. He is also featured on the 2024 Outland Trophy Watch List.
Pete and the Aggies are set to begin their 2024 campaign in Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they welcome Southeast Missouri. Kickoff versus the Redhawks is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
