County receives Audit and Accountability Award

Doña Ana County, NM – At the 2024 New Mexico Legislative Conference in Santa Fe, Doña Ana County received the Accountability Award for Large County Audit Achievement from State Auditor Joseph M. Maestas.

New Mexico Counties and the State Auditor’s Office selected Doña Ana County as a winner in the large county category for Fiscal Year 2022. This award is a meaningful achievement and a recognition of the hard work and dedication the County’s finance and audit teams deliver.

The award recognizes the County’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of financial transparency and accountability. The rigorous audit process involved a thorough review of financial statements and internal controls, and the County met or exceeded all the requirements.

“We are grateful to the Audit team for maintaining the highest standards of financial transparency and accountability, year-round,” County Manager Fernando Macias said. “From employees to elected officials, residents and business owners alike, everyone can rest assured that the County’s accounting was thoroughly audited and confirmed by a neutral auditor.”

Doña Ana County has received nine accounting awards since fiscal year 2011, including five Accountability Awards for Large County Audit in 2011, 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022, the Large County Special Mention in 2012 and 2014, and the Continued Excellence Award for 2018 and 2019.
