New Mexico Sportsmanship takes the Court in West Las Vegas

On Tuesday, a pair of New Mexico schools got together to play a volleyball game, but what led up to the first serve was an act of true sportsmanship. Both communities had several homes damaged and families displaced. “The two communities have gone through so much in the last few years,” wrote West Las Vegas athletic director Richard Tripp on social media. “Two cities, two schools, and two teams come together to show that we are ONE,” was the first line of the post on social media platform X.

“We just wanted Ruidoso to know that West Las Vegas, as well as the state, stands with them during this time, in which their community is going through,” said Tripp. “We share a common bond, as we went through something similar, just a few years ago. We are with Ruidoso and stand with Ruidoso.”

West Las Vegas beat Ruidoso in the match 3-0 in the season opener for both schools.
