The Aggies’ blindside protector is among the best in the nation and Tuesday morning the Football Writers Association of America announced Shiyazh Pete is on the preseason watch list for the 2024 Outland Trophy.
The Outland Trophy is ultimately awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman and the recipient will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN on Dec. 12, 2024. The official presentation to the winner will be made at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee in Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 22, 2025.
Entering his third year with the program, Pete was one of 24 offensive tackles on this year’s list and one of just four honorees hailing from Conference USA, including being the only tackle from CUSA. Last year, the native of Missoula, Mont., started all 15 games for the Aggies and anchored an offensive line that helped the Aggies finish 14th in the nation in rushing yards per game. Additionally, Pete was one of three Aggies to earn First Team All-CUSA honors for his play during the 2023 season.
Pete and the Aggies are set to begin their 2024 campaign in Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they welcome Southeast Missouri. Kickoff versus the Redhawks is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
