NM State kicked off the season with a strong showing at the Aggie Invitational, securing six wins, including two in doubles play.
Freshmen Montana Parkinson-Lubold and Nadia Nemeth impressed in their debut. Parkinson-Lubold battled to a hard-fought singles win over Abilene Christian’s Masha Vrsalovic, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4, while Nemeth defeated Eva Arranz (ACU) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Nemeth also paired with returner Whitney Moon to best Western New Mexico’s Andreea Arnautu and Lucia Carmena, 6-0, in doubles.
Team leaders Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu delivered solid performances as well. Pinaieva earned a singles victory over Olivia Sears (ACU), 7-5, 6-7, 11-9 and teamed with Dora Kurdi to defeat Gabriella Blumberg and Mana Baudet (WNMU) 6-2, in doubles. Zhu added to the tally with a singles win over ACU’s Angela Del Campo, 6-3, ret.
The Aggie Invitational continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. with doubles play set to go first.
