The Las Cruces Metals Guild was founded in 2022 to connect metalsmiths at all stages of their careers. The guild provides learning and networking opportunities through social gatherings, workshops, lectures and other community activities.

An opening reception will kick off the exhibition from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at THE HOOD, 3206 Harrelson St. The show, which is free and open to the public, will run through Nov. 11. THE HOOD is open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m.

“This exhibition is such a great opportunity for not only metals and jewelry students to show their work, but also a fabulous first show for the Metals Guild of Las Cruces,” said NMSU art student Johanna Typaldos. “As a student member, I’m excited and proud to be a part of this group show.”

18 metalsmiths will display their work at the exhibition, more than half with ties to NMSU. Typaldos and NMSU art students Julieanna Lerma, Leila Duran, Kayla Blundell, Imperio Hernandez, Darcy Matthews, Elizabeth Swenson and Gisselle Gomez will be displaying their works alongside NMSU alumni Nick Galza, Catherine Gabaldon Barnes and Carolina Sephra Reyes.

“Las Cruces Metals Guild is newly formed community organization, and we are excited to show our members talented work to the public,” said Reyes, president of the Las Cruces Metals Guild. “I hope everyone can join us at the opening reception to celebrate our first exhibition!”
