Aggie Men Capture Fifth Consecutive Herb Wimberly Team Title

Once again, NM State has played its way to the team title at its home tournament – winning the 2024 Herb Wimberly Memorial by a total of 17 strokes at the NM State Golf Course.

The Aggies kept their foot on the gas pedal in Tuesday’s final round as they posted a final round of 276 (-8) to run away with the trophy. In total, the Aggies placed five individuals inside the top 10, including four of the five Aggies in the lineup for the week.
 
Individually, the Aggies were supported by a career day from redshirt senior Alexandre Bauduin who carded a bogey-free final round to take home the individual title. On the day, Bauduin posted a career-low 18-hole round of 64 (-7) to finish at 202 (-11) across the two-day event. This included a 30 (-5) on front nine which was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 fourth hole.
 
Freshman Mateo Payán also took advantage of playing on the Aggies home track as he submitted a 69 (-2) in the final round to finish the week with his best placement to date – finishing tied for second alongside the junior college individual champion Bryce Womack of Midland Community College.
 
Following an outstanding week at the NB3 Matchplay at Twin Warriors, Javier Delgadillo turned in a 54-hole score of 207 (-6) to finish in a tie for fourth. Delgadillo’s week wrapped up with a 71 (E) on Tuesday to earn the third top five finish of his career with the Aggies.
 
Aidan Thomas finished two strokes behind Delgadillo to clinch a solo sixth-place finish after concluding the tournament with a total score of 209 (-4). For Thomas, this marks the third top six placement at Herb Wimberly of his career after finishing tied for first as a freshman and tied for third as a junior.
 
The final Aggie to appear among the top 10 players was Ethan Klose who carded a 70 (-1) in the final round to move up three spots on Tuesday. On the week, Klose posted a final score of 211 (-2) to come away with a T8 finish. Previously, Klose’s best collegiate finish came at this same event in 2023 when he finished tied for 45th.

Several other Aggies were scattered across the next 15 spots on the leaderboard as Vari Mariscal finished in a tie for 13th with a score of 213 (E) while Kostka HornoJaxson Kenzoand Anthony Lara tied for 23rd with a score of 215 (+2).
