The Aggies delivered an impressive performance on the first day of the Mountain Regional Championships, sweeping all three singles qualifying matches and notching two impressive doubles wins in the round of 64.

In doubles action, Anna Pinaieva and Nadia Nemeth fought through a tense battle, outlasting UTEP’s Zuzanna Szczepanska and Candice Bernier in an 8-7 victory, clinching the win in a crucial tiebreak. Meanwhile, Lisa Zhu and freshman Montana Parkinson-Lubold showed great chemistry in their 8-5 win over Colorado State’s Victora Erechtchenko and Mariya Dobreva, pulling through late to secure the match. 

In singles qualifying round of 64, Whitney Moon dominated her match to get past Montana State’s Andrea Cuquerella 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Nadia Nemeth continued her strong debut season, grinding out a 6-3, 6-4 win over Idaho’s Hanna Koprowska with well-timed winners in key moments. Dora Kurdi capped off the Aggies’ singles success, battling through a tight first set to edge Northern Arizona’s Laura Duhl 7-6 before pulling away 6-3 in the second set. 

The Aggies return to action tomorrow at 9 a.m. with more doubles play.
