A downed power line forced the temporary closure of a portion of Highway 70 east of Las Cruces on Friday.

About 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, a truck struck a utility pole causing a power line to go down near Jornada Road on Las Cruces’ East Mesa.
Both directions of Highway 70, east and west, were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.
Motorists traveling in both directions of Highway 70 were detoured onto the frontage roads between Mesa Grande Boulevard and Sonoma Ranch Boulevard.
New Mexico State Police and the New Mexico Department of Transportation handled the temporary closure of Highway 70.
A utilities crew is still working to repair the downed power line.
Both directions of Highway 70 were reopened to traffic about 7 p.m. One lane of Bataan Memorial West is closed until utility crews complete their repairs.
