Aggies Open Weekend with Commanding Win Over Colorado School of Mines

NM State returned to action for their first of two dual meets scheduled this week. On Thursday evening, the Aggies (2-0) earned a 152-103 victory over Colorado School of Mines (0-1) at the Colorado School of Mines Natatorium.

On the day, the Aggies tallied a total of 27 podium finishes across 14 events, including sweeping the podium in the 100 back. Individually, several Aggies shined including Dijana Mazumdar, Emma Bacon, Katie Rink and Naomi Slee who each registered a total of 18 points on the day.

To open the meet, NM State turned in first and third-place finishes in the 200 medley relay to immediately set the tone. In the event, the Aggies’ A relay team of Emily Dobbins, Kodi Wiman, Faye McDonagh and Dijana Mazumdar earned the first win of the day after posting a time of 1:46.49.

A pair of Aggies owned the top two spots in the next event as Naomi Slee (10:41.82) and Estel Galo (10:54.62) finished first and second in the 1000 free.

Katie Rink then submitted the top time in the 200 free as she reached the wall at 1:54.95 to finish nearly five seconds ahead of the field. Rink would also dominate the 500 free with a time of 5:09.17 – coming in almost 15 seconds before anyone else in the field.

The 100 back was the event the Aggies controlled the most as the three competing Aggies finished first, second and third. This performance came from Emily Dobbins (58.89), Anna Uren(1:01.12) and Jamie Puhalski (1:01.31).

After contributing in the 200 medley relay, Kodi Wiman earned her first individual win as she secured the top spot in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.53.

Later, Emma Bacon logged a first-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.44 to clock in over two seconds quicker than the remaining five competitors. Bacon also posted a first-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 57.87.

In her second collegiate competition, freshman Dijana Mazumdar collected another gold medal as she posted a time of 24.43 in the 50 free to secure the top spot in the sprint. Just one event later, Mazumdar would pick up her second win of the dual as she finished first in the 100 free with a time of 52.60.

Naomi Slee then swam away from the field in the 200 back as she managed a first-place finish with a time of 2:07.22 to reach the wall over six seconds ahead of the next-closest competitor.

Riley Crespo would secure the top spot in the final individual event of the meet as she placed first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:40.43.

Lastly, the quartet of Emily Dobbins, Dijana Mazumdar, Kira Brownell and Katie Rink would clinch the victory in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.62.

Following the win over the Orediggers, NM State will travel to Greeley, Colo., for a matchup against WAC counterpart Northern Colorado on Friday. The Aggies and Bears will begin swimming at 4 p.m. MT. Additionally, the NM State divers will join their teammates in competition on Friday.
