Parents, football and soccer fans, students and members of the community are advised to plan accordingly for several Friday events happening on Nov. 1 at the Las Cruces Public Schools Field of Dreams complex along Motel Boulevard and Tashiro Road.
According to the LCPS Athletics Department, Friday night will feature the last game of the regular football season, which pits Centennial High School against Las Cruces High School. The matchup is expected to draw a lot of fans, participants and booster clubs, so parking will be at a premium. To accommodate, the district is advising that only one parking space per vehicle will be allowed and recreational vehicles will not be allowed. Fans will also be expected to follow the LCPS clear bag policy that went into effect earlier this year. No pop-up shade tents will be allowed at any Field of Dreams parking lot, and pedestrian traffic inside the football stadium between the east and west side will be prohibited.
At the same time, the LCPS Field of Dreams soccer complex will be hosting playoff games and the district will also host the first-ever Roadrunner Rally Grill and Thrill high school BBQ contest from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Field of Dreams baseball complex, located south of the football stadium and is open to the public. On the menu, FFA students will be grilling St. Louis-style spareribs and chicken. Students with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will be preparing two sides and a dessert. The winner of the cookoff will be announced at the Centennial/Las Cruces game inside the football stadium at halftime.
Attendees of the BBQ cookoff are asked to park within the gated area at the Field of Dreams baseball parking lot, 2300 Tashiro Dr. Fans planning to attend the football game are advised to use the parking lots on either side of the stadium – Centennial is the home team and will park west of the stadium (near the press box) and Las Cruces, the visitor, will park on the east side. Soccer fans will use the dirt lots north of Field 1 and Field 2. Overflow parking for the Grill and Thrill event will be at the southernmost end of the east side parking lot of the stadium. Please see the map for additional details.
Motorists in the Field of Dreams area along Tashiro and Motel Boulevard are asked to watch out for pedestrians, follow the posted speed limit and exercise caution.
