Aggies Place Seven in NCAA West First Round

NM State will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the first round of action starting Wednesday, May 22.

After wrapping up the 2024 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, a select group of Aggies have been selected to represent NM State at the NCAA West first round. The meet where the Aggies will look to advance to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., at John McDonnell Field May 22-25. Nationals will then take place June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Last season, NM State sent seven student-athletes to the 2023 NCAA West first round, including Jhana DownieAliyah LoganTerice Steen and Miranda TcheutchouaRebecca GreenBreanna Moss and Mickaliliah Vassell will compete in the NCAA West first round for the first time in their NM State careers.

Meet the Entrants
 
Jhana Downie | Jr. | 200m 
 
One of the top student-athletes in Conference USA, Jhana Downie will run in the 200m dash prelims after posting a time of 23.18 in the event at the LSU Alumni Gold meet.
 
Maggie Gibbs | Gr. | 10,000m
 
Gibbs holds the top spot in the NM State record book for the 10,000m run after posting a personal best of 33:55.79 at the 2024 Stanford Invitational.
 
Emily Stutesman | Gr. | 10,000m 
 
Close behind Gibbs, Stutesman tallied the second-fastest 10,000m run mark in NM State history after posting a time of 34:05.98 at the 2024 Stanford Invitational.
 
Aliyah Logan | Sr. | 100m Hurdles
 
Logan holds the top spot in Aggie history for the 100m hurdles (13.08), while qualifying for the NCAA West first round after posting a wind-adjusted time of 13.06 at this year’s Texas Relays.
 
Terice Steen | Sr. | 400m Hurdles
 
Steen broke her previous school record of 58.36 seconds at the 2024 CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, posting a time of 57.90 to capture the gold medal and secure her spot in the NCAA West first round.
 
Rebecca Green | Sr. | Shot put
 
Green launched herself to the top of the NM State record book and earned her first trip to the NCAA West first round after posting a mark of 16.59m (54-5.25″) at the Stanford Invitational.
 
Miranda Tcheutchoua | Jr. | Hammer throw
 
Tcheutchoua recorded a season-best in the hammer throw at the 2024 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, posting a mark of 58.61m (192-3″) to advance into the NCAA West first round.
 
Terice SteenBreanna MossJhana Downie, Mickaliliah Vassell | 4x400m relay
 
The 4×400 relay team of Steen, Moss, Downie and Vassell secured their spot in the NCAA West first round at their first meet of the season, posting a school-record time of 3:35.78 at the Willie Williams Classic.
