NM State opened its Conference USA Tournament run in dominant fashion this morning, sweeping I-10 rival UTEP 4-0 at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
The Aggies came out sharp in doubles, quickly securing the first point. Dora Kurdi and Whitney Moon rolled to a 6-1 win over Candice Bernier and Paloma Hennicaux on court three. Anna Pinaieva and Nadia Nemeth clinched the point at the top spot with a 6-4 win over Hanna Telzynska and DeCora Antoine.
Carrying that momentum into singles, the Crimson & White took care of business with three straight-set victories to shut the door on the Miners. Whitney Moon was first off the court with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Paloma Hennicaux at the No. 3 spot. Lisa Zhufollowed suit from the No.2 spot, defeating Candice Bernier by the same scoreline. The clincher came from Montana Parkinson-Lubold, who battled through a tight first set before pulling away for a 7-5, 6-2 win against Hanna Telzynska on court four.
With the win, NM State improves to 13-8 on the season and advances to the quarterfinal round.
