EL PASO, Texas – Staying within the Borderland for the first and only time in the 2024-2025 track & field season, NM State put together a strong day at the Sun City Classic, hosted by UTEP. Andrew Gibby and Jordan Torres took first-place finishes in their respective event debuts – two of 13 total podiums for the Crimson & White in El Paso.

The quartet of Marlee CavittJhana DownieSierra Brewer, and Jaylah McDonnell opened action for NM State on the track, posting a time of 45.05 seconds to finish second overall. This mark ranks as the second-fastest 4×100 meter relay time on the season for the Crimson & White.
 
Running unattached, Amanda Radava took the top spot in the 1500m with a time of 4:31.93, while Alexandra Ordaz also competed unattached.
 
On the men’s side, Orion Chavez recorded a personal best time of 4:01.39 to finish second overall, with Angel Maese also setting a personal record (4:08.32). Derick Castellanos, Leo Valenzuela and Gabriel Uranaga debuted in the event for the Crimson & White.
 
In the first of two personal bests on the day, Breanna Moss tallied a time of 14.04 in the 100m hurdles, taking fourth overall. Finishing in third was Aliyah Logan, who recently completed her years of competition with NM State during indoor season.
 
Sahara Tasker posted the best time among Aggie entrants in the 400m, recording a time of 54.10 – a new personal best and the second-fastest in the event. Competing unattached, LeslieAnn Apodaca also competed in the 400m.
 
The event featuring the largest number of NM State participants, Jhana Downie tallied the second-best time in the 100m (fastest among collegiate entrants), crossing the line with a time of 11.66 – a new personal best. Finishing just behind Downie in fourth was fellow senior Sierra Brewer (11.70), along with Marlee Cavitt (11.80) in sixth.
 
Later in the day, Radava returned to the track for the 800m running unattached, posting a final time of 2:10.88. Senior sprinter Jahnya Hill took the top finish among NM State entrants with a time of 2:13.85 – a new personal best.
 
Competing as the lone Aggie in the 400m hurdles, Breanna Moss tallied a new personal best time of 59.91, the second fastest time in the event.
 
Making her outdoor debut in the 200m dash this season, Jhana Downie took first among Aggies and third overall with a time of 23.44. Sahara Tasker posted her second personal best of the day, crossing the line with a time of 23.873. In a neck-and-neck finish with Tasker, Sierra Brewer tabbed a personal best in the event with a time of 23.880. Continuing the trend of personal bests, true freshman Jaylah McDonnell tallied a time of 24.08.
 
Jordan Torres and Murrie Dodge debuted in the 2000m Steeplechase on Friday, with Torres taking the top finish with a time of 7:19.29, while Dodge posted a time of 7:41.04.
 
The men’s 3000m closed the Crimson & White weekend in El Paso, with all entrants being NM State student-athletes, as well as making their event debuts. Andrew Gibby tallied the top time with a mark of 9:01.29, with Christian Baretto in second with a time of 9:12.20. Freshman Angel Maese (9:20.92) and Gabriel Uranga (9:27.29) rounded out the Aggie finishers in the event.

The Aggie quartet of Kamryn CadleCamila Garcia CarreraSamonne Cauley and Alesha Lane opened the day of competition in El Paso, with Alesha Lane securing the Aggies’ first podium of the weekend with a mark of 48.19 meters (158-1″) – a personal best. Kamryn Cadle finished just behind in fourth with a new personal best of 47.56m (156′). Second-year Aggie Samonne Cauley tabbed a new personal best mark of 42.84m (140-7″).
 
Lane continued her strong day at Kidd Field, recording a third-place finishing the discus with a mark of 45.58m (149-6″). Albuquerque native and true freshman Ellie Breckenridge also posted a new personal record.
 
In the long jump, Jaylah McDonnell recorded the best distance for NM State with a mark of 5.31m (17-5″). Angelina Killings tabbed a new season best (5.24m), while Julissa Daniels recorded a new personal best of 4.79m.
 
Kylie Rubrecht was the only Aggie to compete in the javelin toss on Friday, recording a new personal best with a mark of 38.67m (126-10″) to take fourth.
 
Aileen Alvarado recorded a second-place finish in the high jump after tying her personal best of 1.65m (5-5″).
