Aggies Track and Field Wraps Day One in Lubbock

Three Aggies post new personal bests on the opening day of competiton.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Taking part in their first competition of the season, NM State took their talents to the Corky Classic, held at the Sports Performance Center and hosted by Texas Tech. On Friday, the Aggies posted strong showings in multiple events, with Marlee Cavitt and Aliyah Logan advancing to the semifinals of the 60m dash and 60m Hurdles. Alongside this, a trio of Aggies tallied new personal records in Lubbock.

Kicking off the track portion of competition in the late afternoon, Aliyah Logan was the sole entrant into the 60m Hurdles for the Crimson & White, advancing to the semifinals after finishing with a time of 8.47 seconds. In the semifinals, Logan finished with a time of 8.49, crossing the line 14th overall.  
 
The largest event of the day for the Crimson & White was the 60m dash, with five Aggies vying for a spot in the semifinals. Marlee Cavitt earned an automatic spot in the next round following a first-place finish in her heat with a time of 7.59. Later in the evening, the dual-sport athlete would post a time of 7.60.
 
In the 800m run, Marlene Mosqueda paced the Aggies with a new personal best of 2:18.70, shattering her previous indoor best by nearly 10 seconds. Missing all but the season-opening Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open in cross-country season, Angela Korte returned to action for the Crimson & White, finishing third in her heat.  
 
A quartet of NM State student-athletes partook in the 3000m run to close the night, with veteran Mari Gallegos leading the way with a new personal record of 10:54.99. Following right behind were second-year Aggies Trista Cordova and Murrie Dodge, taking seventh and eighth respectively – both racing in the event for the first time during indoor competition.
 
Rounding out the Aggies in the event, true freshman Alexandra Ordaz completed her first track event with a time of 11:26.88.
 
Field Headlines
Junior Alesha Lane gave the Aggies a strong start to the afternoon, posting a new personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 17.38 meters (57-0.25″). The trio of Lane, Kamryn Cadleand Rebecca Green will return on Saturday to compete in the shot put.
 
The only Aggie to compete in the long jump, Cameron Hodges finished with a best mark of 5.46m (17-11″), just missing out on her personal best of 5.57m.
