Aliyah Logan Breaks School Record in 60m Hurdles as Aggies Close Regular Season

On Saturday afternoon, the final day of the Don Kirby Invitational, Logan blazed down the track, finishing with a time of 8.21 to best her own school record for the second time this season. This became the fifth school record to be broken in five indoor meets for the Aggies – with Logan besting her own record in the 60m hurdles twice, Rebecca Green surpassing a mark in the shotput that stood for 15 years, only to break the record again two weeks later, and Jhana Downie besting herself in the 200m dash.
 
Along with Logan’s eventual fourth-place finish, the Crimson & White recorded five other top-ten finishes on Saturday, including Rebecca Green finishing fifth in the shotput and Thobile Amontaking sixth in the mile run with a time of 5:00.40.
 
Posting a mark of 15.95m (52-4″) in the shotput, Los Lunas native Rebecca Green led the Aggies in the event for the fourth time this indoor season, finishing with a fifth-place result. Alesha Lanefollowed up her personal best in the weight throw on Friday with a an indoor best in the shotput, recording a distance of 13.95m (45-9.25″) to take 11th. This mark is just shy of a lifetime best of 13.96m set at the 2023 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. As well, Makiya Moore posted a season-best result of 12.36m (40-6.75″).
 
Lining up at the starting blocks alongside fellow Aggie T’Erica Boyd and student-athletes from programs like BYU, Oregon and California, Aliyah Logan outshined her competition. Blazing down the track at a time of 8.21, easily winning her heat with the third-best time in preliminary action. Advancing to the finals, Logan would run a time of 8.23 to finish fourth on the day.
 
In the 60m dash, senior Terice Steen competed for the first time this season. Showing no rust, Steen recorded a personal best with a time of 7.83 to top her heat.
 
Jhana Downie closed her weekend with a ninth-place finish in the invitational 60m dash, missing out on advancing to the finals by one one-thousandth of a second, bested by Eastern New Mexico’s Grizell Scarlett by a time of 7.495 to 7.496.
 
Suiting up in the mile run for the first time this season, Thobile Amon showed no rust, finishing in sixth place with a time of 5:00.40 to pace the Aggies. Maggie Gibbs followed just behind Amon, posting a season-best time of 5:02.02 to take seventh. Mari Gallegos recorded her second personal record of the weekend, recording a time of 5:32.03 in the mile after setting a personal best in the 3000m run on Friday.
 
Nia Allison led a trio of Aggies to set personal bests in the 800m, posting a time of 2:20.03 to finish second in her heat. Just behind Allison in heat six was Albuquerque native and Volcano Vista graduate Angela Korte, posting an indoor best time of 2:20.79. Freshman Marlene Mosqueda recorded a new personal best with a time of 2:28.64 to claim the top spot in her heat.
 
The 4×400 relay put a cap on the Aggies’ regular season, the quartet of Breanna MossSierra BrewerGrace Pendarvis and T’Erica Boyd teaming up to record a time of 3:47.30, securing the top placement in their heat and tenth overall.
