Apartment Fire in Las Cruces Displaces Seven Occupants

Fire at a Mars Avenue apartment complex damaged two homes and displaced seven residents Sunday afternoon.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, Las Cruces firefighters were called to the report of a fire at Willow Brook Mars Townhomes at 2200 Mars Ave. Crews arrived to find flames emitting from the roof of one section of the complex.

Firefighters pinpointed the fire to an attic. Using interior suppression techniques and roof ventilation, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes. The fire was brought under control within minutes.

Crews determined a total of seven residents were displaced from the two homes that were damaged. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and damage estimates have yet to be determined.
