Junior outfielder Mitch Namie provided an early spark for the Aggies, launching a two-run home run in the top of the first to give NM State a quick 2-0 lead. Namie would later add a solo shot in the fifth, his second home run of the day, finishing with a team-high three RBIs.

After NM State (23-33, 11-15 CUSA) starter Matthew Yarc retired the Kennesaw State batters in order in the first, the Owl hitters found success in the second. KSU (30-26, 17-9 CUSA) plated four runs in the inning, including a two-run single by Cam Suto and a wild pitch that allowed another to score, quickly flipping the game in their favor, 4-2.

The Aggies responded in the fourth behind Bryce Campbell’s two-run blast to left, knotting the score at 4-4. Namie’s second home run an inning later briefly tied things up again at 5-5 after the Owls had reclaimed the lead.

But the bottom of the seventh proved fatal for the Aggies. Kennesaw State erupted for five runs, fueled by a pair of home runs. The Owls sent nine batters to the plate in the inning, turning a tie game into a 10-5 lead that NM State could not overcome.

NM State managed just one baserunner over the final four innings, and Kennesaw’s bullpen shut the door to eliminate the Aggies from tournament contention.

NUMBERS OF NOTE

  • Mitch Namie became the first Aggie to hit two home runs in a single game since Titus Dumitru did so against TCU on May 11, 2024. With the two long balls, Namie finished the year with a career-best seven home runs, surpassing a freshman campaign which included six home runs. Today also marked Namie’s sixth three-RBI day of the year.
  • Bryce Campbell’s home run brought his season total to six, which ranked fifth on the team despite playing in just 39 games.
  • With 45 combined wins under the leadership of Angier, this marks the most combined wins for an Aggie head coach across his first two seasons since Rocky Ward compile 61 wins during the 2004 and 2005 to begin his tenure.
