Baseball: DBU, WKU Selected to 2025 NCAA Tournament Field

CUSA tournament champion WKU will be the No. 3 seed in the Oxford Regional while CUSA regular season champ DBU will be a No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional.

DALLAS – Conference USA has received two bids to the 2025 NCAA Baseball Championship, as announced by the Division I baseball committee on Monday. CUSA tournament champion WKU will be the No. 3 seed in the Oxford Regional while CUSA regular season champ DBU will be a No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional. Regional action will open Friday, May 30.

Fresh off their first CUSA tournament championship, WKU (46-12, 18-9 CUSA) will travel to Oxford and open up their postseason trip against No. 2 Georgia Tech (40-17, 19-11 ACC) on Friday at 3 p.m. CT. No. 2 DBU (40-16, 21-6 CUSA) will face off with No. 3 Rhode Island (38-20, 22-8 A10) in the Baton Rouge Regional and is set for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch.

The Patriots, led by Dan Heefner, are making their 14th regional appearance in program history and the 11th straight. The Patriots owned the league’s highest batting average during CUSA play (.321) and are led by CUSA Defensive Player of the Year Nathan Humphreys in centerfield, All-CUSA first teamers Grant JayChayton Krauss and Keaton Grady. Sophomore right-hander James Ellwanger was named to the CUSA All-Tournament after his incredible 12-strikeout performance against Jax State on Wednesday night.

Hilltopper skipper Marc Rardin was named CUSA Coach of the Year after leading his bunch to a 46-win campaign and their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2009. Ryan Wideman, the CUSA Player and Newcomer of the Year, leads the conference in batting average (.398), hits (94) and stolen bases (45). Drew Whalen, the league’s Pitcher of the Year, compiled a CUSA-best nine wins in the regular season along with a 3.17 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 76.2 innings. Ethan Lizama was named the Russell D. Anderson MVP after hitting .389 with three home runs and seven RBI on the week.

#1 LSU vs. #4 Little Rock – 2 p.m. CT
#2 DBU vs. #3 Rhode Island – 6:30 p.m. CT

Oxford Regional hosted by No. 10 Ole Miss
#2 Georgia Tech vs. #3 WKU – 3 p.m. CT
#1 Ole Miss vs. #4 Murray State – 7 p.m. CT

Each of the 16 regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, May 30, to Monday, June 2 (if necessary).

A CUSA team has advanced to a Super Regional in 12 of the last 24 years and reached the College World Series six times since 2005.

The Men’s College World Series begins play Friday, June 13, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.


Arizona made it into the tournament. The Aggies lost twice to the Wildcats: 9-11 on April 8 in Tucson and 2-6 on April 29. The Wildcats will be playing in the Eugene, Oregon Regional with Oregon, Utah Valley and Cal Poly.

Preseason #1 and early NMSU opponent, Texas A&M, did not make this year’s tournament.
