Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Boutz Road

Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash that killed a 48-year-old man late Friday evening.
 
About 10:50 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, Las Cruces police and fire were dispatched to the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash at the intersection of Boutz Road and El Paseo Road. First responders arrived to find Juan A. Haro, 48, suffering from multiple injuries.
 
Life-saving measures were attempted, but Haro was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Traffic investigators learned Haro was crossing Boutz, north to south, when he was struck by a black Cadillac CTS that was traveling west on Boutz and approaching El Paseo Road.
 
The Cadillac came to a stop nearby and police interviewed the 17-year-old driver. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant and further investigation.
 
At this time, no charges have been filed pending further investigation.

Police Seek Info on Man’s Death Near Bus Stop

Las Cruces police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the suspicious death of a 63-year-old man found Thursday afternoon near a bus stop on east Lohman Avenue.

About 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, Las Cruces police and fire responded to several 911 calls regarding a man lying face down near a bus stop on east Lohman Avenue, between Nacho Drive and Foothills Road, near the ramp to the Las Cruces Dam recreation area. Officers and emergency medical personnel found the man with visible injuries to his face and experiencing agonal breathing, a medical condition often associated with severe distress or the final stages of life.

First responders attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as Luther Lewis Gilbert, 63, of Las Cruces.

Detectives with the Las Cruces Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gilbert’s death and are asking the public for help. Police are asking to speak with anyone who may have seen Gilbert on Thursday, witnesses who saw Gilbert at or near the bus stop before the medical emergency occurred, or anyone who may have known or recently interacted with Gilbert. 

Las Cruces police are investigating the death of Luther Lewis Gilbert, 63, who was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon at a bus stop near the entrance of Las Cruces Dam on Lohman Avenue.
